Celebrating God’s work in 2023
This past year GodTools has seen a dramatic increase in the number of people using it. We are so excited to support you with the GodTools app as you help the world hear about Jesus.
Below are some highlights of what God has done around the globe through GodTools this past year. He has worked in and through thousands of people in more than 200 countries.

A global snapshot of the past year:
- 1,014,207 users (+336% increase)
- 2,515,586 sessions (+351% increase)
- 54,757 gospel presentations (+35% increase)
- 17,474 people indicated they want to follow Christ (+38% increase)
- 5,139 Holy Spirit presentations (+32% increase)
- 34,302 Lesson completions in 2023 (+96% increase)
Growth by region
A small sample of key insights we saw during 2023 across regions and continents:
- Africa: As the largest and most active region, Africa had nearly 36% of all sessions with four of the top 10 most active countries being located there.
- Southern & Southeast Asia: 400% growth in users and 77% increase in new followers per day.
- Europe: 57% retention rate, 37% increase in Lesson completions and more than 101% increase in users.
- East Asia: 170% increase in Lesson completions and 67% increase in gospel presentations.
- Latin & South America: 360% increase in users and four of the top 10 most active countries were from this region.
- Central & Middle Asia: 97% increase in lesson completions.
- North America & Oceania: 127% increase in lesson completions.
Growth by country
A small sample of key insights we saw during 2023 in particular countries:
- Japan: 21% of GodTools sessions were gospel presentations and a 77% increase in new believers.
- Congo - Kinshasa: Gospel presentations increased by 82% and 204 people put their faith in Jesus (double the number reported in 2022).
- India: The sessions-per-user rate rose from 1.8 (in 2022) to 3.3 (in 2023).
- Vietnam: 4,200 more users than in 2022. Gospel presented over 2,000 times (+63%).
- Honduras: The volume of sessions, from 2022 to 2023, grew by more than 14 times.
Lesson engagement
For a variety of reasons, such as increased marketing efforts, better connection to partners and increased number of translations, we’ve seen GodTools become more of a trusted resource for learning to do evangelism than ever before. Here are some of the insights we saw:
- More than 254,000 users interacted with Lessons in 2023 (+202%).
- 34,302 Lesson completions in 2023 (+96% increase).
- 55% Lesson completion rate (+5% increase).
- The most opened Lesson was "Five reasons to be courageous in having conversations about Jesus."
- The most completed Lesson was "How the Holy Spirit helps you overcome fear with faith."
Tool engagement
We’ve seen God use the content in Tools in many ways over the past year. Here are a few of the insights that we saw in the data:
- More than 275,500 users interacted with at least one gospel invitation tool (almost 2 times more than in 2022).
- The most opened tool was "The Four Spiritual Laws."
A story we love to share
We have the privilege of hearing stories from all over the world about how people are using GodTools. This story is a special one from one of our key partners.
Unlocking doors and untying knots in Vietnam
Phoebe is a digital strategist in one of the least-reached nations on the planet — Vietnam. While doing ministry, Phoebe and her team faced the challenge of talking with people from a wide range of beliefs. So wide, in fact, that they saw the need for a new tool to help them talk effectively with others about Jesus.
So Phoebe and her team designed a strategic resource, called “Untie the Knots,” to help Vietnamese Christians share the gospel in their local community. The tool guides a discussion about the worldview of Buddhists, Catholics, those who participate in ancestor worship, and those who believe in self or science rather than in God. It also helps people discuss any questions or concerns they have about these worldviews.
When Phoebe showed this resource to the GodTools team, asking us to put it in the app, we were thrilled. We believed these hand-crafted questions and format would help Christians in Vietnam to share about Jesus with their friends, family and neighbors.
Early in 2023 we finished work on the first in-app version of “Untie the Knots” for the Vietnam team. Despite the daunting nature of doing ministry in a nation with so few Christians, they are already seeing success in their use of this tool. Contextualized and thoughtful, “Untie the Knots” has become a core part of their ministry and central to the way they do evangelism.

New features & improvements
We strive to make GodTools the most globally effective digital resource for learning and doing evangelism. In case you missed them, here are a few of the major improvements we made to the app in 2023.

Untie the Knots
In a place where multiple worldviews coexist, conversations about spiritual things can easily get tangled into knots. “Untie the Knots” is a gospel tool developed by digital strategy leaders in Vietnam to help Christians have deeper conversations with people from the five most common belief backgrounds in Vietnam.

Filter of Hope
In partnership with Filter of Hope, an organization that provides people with access to clean water, we helped produce the new tool called “Filter of Hope. Knowing God.” This specially made tool will serve as the digital companion for thousands of Christians who will participate in a trip with Filter of Hope going to places like Guatemala, Cuba and beyond.

Agape UK Knowing God Personally
“Knowing God Personally (UK)” is a tool version that uses contextualized terms and images to make the message of Jesus easier to understand for those in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
– IMPROVEMENT
App Language Update
We spent time in 2023 working on improving how the GodTools app manages languages. Our hope with these updates is to create a more intuitive and seamless app experience for a wider audience.
